Comparison Pics Of Chinese & Reg. Phunnel

Recommended Posts

I just got in a Small Chinese Phunnel bowl from HC. I haven't smoked with it yet though, but it seems solid. It is lighter than my real tangiers medium phunnel.

Here are some pics for comparison:

The blue one is a Real Medium and the Brown is the Small Chinese. Shows the size difference/amount of shisha they hold.

Here you can tell that the "real" ones material is more grainy while the Chinese version is smooth.

Chinese:

Regular:

The shisha on the side is the difference in the amount between the two.

Yea the phunnel itself does rise a lot higher than the original, I guess I scalli mod would work well to prevent the foil from covering the hole. It looks like it will be fine though as long as the foil is tight. I'll test it out tonight and let you know how it works.

hmm I usually don't support fakes but we asked eric to make smaller phunnels and release them to the market and he denied us ... the chinese looks like the perfect size i've been looking for. I just may snag one.

Yeah even a small is a bit much for single sessions... I haven't the adequate tobacco to try this yet, but how about just packing half of a small phunnel? I think someone has done that and the results were good.

Also, I'm a tad skeptical about the material that the Chinese phunnels are made of. I've dropped mine (original) a few times, and it also survived a flight in the checked-in bag... twice. Only time will tell methinks.

Aight, here's my review/report.

I packed the Chinese Small Phunnel with AF, used heavy duty foil and poked 3 rings of holes.

Pretty much instantly the pressure/force of my KM sucked down the foil and blocked the flow. I poked a couple holes directly in the center to lessen the pressure on the center of the foil.

It didn't completely stop, so that leads me to think the phunnel rises just a tad too much. I am disappointed to say that a scalli mod to prevent the foil from covered the phunnel is required.

The use of a scalli mod will reduce the needed shisha anymore to probably around ~15 grams. I'll have to try a scalli mod on the phunnel to see I could even recommend this bowl at all.

Tomorrow I am going to actually file down the phunnel to see if I can get it to work better.

So unless you want to use a mod on it or take the time to file it down, my conclusion is don't buy it.

*Mine could just be a batch that has a taller phunnel but you never know as I only have one to test.

Heh pretty sweet.

Its a good thing these knock offs came out since pretty much all small phunnels are sold out from major vendors.

I just recently broke my small phunnel that I've had for 10 months sad.gif

But good thing is...I have a scalli mod so thats a plus for me if I buy the chinese phunnel.

Hell they are $5 dollars cheaper than the real deal...They smoke almost the same so why not?

Yeah they smoke fine as long as the foil doesn't plug the phunnel. I was using a toothpick to hold the foil up and took some pulls and it smoked fine, but as soon as I stopped holding the foil up it partially blocked the phunnel.

I am with you too Matt, would have paid handsomely for a mini phunnel. I am thinking I may snag one also.

Click, your chinese phunnel looks jacked, phunnel wise. Allot higher. Either way, IMO they smoke allot better with a scalli. Im curious if fileing it down works for you cause one of mine is alittle taller. Heres a pic of smoke without a scalli on the chinese. An thats the problem with these some suck and some compare to tang.

my buddy josiah has a chinese phunnel and i have the real thing and the problems with it go far beyond the phunnel hole. the phunnel hole on his sits almost level with the edge of the bowl, the bowl has a ridge in the molding where the gasket goes so i basically shredded a mya gasket when i used it and last but not least the heat management sucks

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check mine when it comes in for that ridge and smooth it if necessary. As for heat management issues, they are made from different materials, so the heat management will have to be different, that's no different than any other bowl. How does the heat management suck? More rapid heating/cooling? I would expect that from looking at the material differences between them. It's also smaller in size, so that will affect it as well.

I assume this thing is made of clay so not quite sure yet about the heating/dissipation.

I just finished grinding the phunnel down, so I may try it tonight again. Edited by click

From the looks of it, the Chinese is made from some cheap ceramic or something. The Tangiers bowls are made from Grout it looks like.

SUPPORT THE BEST AND THE ORIGINAL!!!

(Eric said he'll think about releasing a mini phunnel. Neither confirmed nor denied although I lean towards denied)

the size is the only reason i'd get one of those funnels...price isn't really an object for something you'll be using for a long time, so that's whatevs, but when there's something out there that's what, even if it is a ripoff of the original, it's still going to be bought.

so eric, get on the mini phunnel.

Yeah that true Mech. Eric gave these bowls his approval so that must mean something. They are a great size for smaller sessions. I'll see if my sis wants to smoke tonight so I can test it. Hate smoking alone dash2.gif

So I smoked with this bowl last night after my modifications and it is awesome. Great for a smaller session. My only complaint is that it takes a little bit longer to heat up than the original phunnel bowls.
